What information we collect, how we collect it and why

Much of what you are likely to consider personal information is collected directly from you when you:

Create an account or purchase any of our Services (e.g., billing information, including name, address, credit card number, government ID);
Request assistance from our award-winning customer service team (e.g. phone number);
complete contact forms or request newsletters or other information from us (e.g. email); or
participate in contests and surveys, apply for a job, or otherwise participate in activities we sponsor, which may require information about you.

However, we also collect additional information when providing our services to you to ensure necessary and optimal performance. These collection methods may not be that obvious to you, so we thought we’d highlight a bit more and explain what these might be (as they vary from time to time):

Cookies and similar technologies on our websites and mobile applications allow us to track your surfing behavior, e.g. links clicked, pages viewed and items purchased. In particular, the data collected relates to your interactions with our website functions or third-party functions, such as B. social media plug-ins included in the Services; Internet Protocol (IP) address (e.g. to determine your preferred language, browser type and settings, date and time you used the Services, device type and settings, operating system used, application IDs, unique device identifiers and error data) . These technologies also automatically collect data to measure website performance and improve our systems, including metadata, log files, page load time, server response time to optimize DNS resolution, network routing and server configurations.

Additional data about you may be obtained from other sources, e.g. from publicly accessible databases, social media platforms or third parties from whom we have acquired data. In this case, we may combine this data with information we already have about you. We may update, expand and analyze the accuracy of our records, assess an applicant’s qualifications for employment, identify new customers and offer products and services that are suitable for you might be of interest. When you provide us with personal information about others, or when others provide us with your information, we only use that information for the specific reason it was provided to us.

Advertisement.

We want to serve you ads that are most relevant and useful to you, so we may use the Personal Information you have provided to us in Account Settings or that is collected through Cookie Technologies to personalize ads and your overall experience with us to improve on our website and other websites. We call this ad personalization (formerly interest-based advertising) because the ads you see are based on previously collected or historical data to determine which ad is most relevant to you, including data such as previous searches, activity, website or app visits , demographic information, or location. Let’s say you’ve registered a domain with us and created a website using our website builder product to demonstrate audience-based personalized advertising. The next time you navigate to our advertising partner’s platform or website, they can recognize that you are a SwishHost customer via a matching email and use that information to help us place an advertisement about our latest promotion on the website – View security. Alternatively, if you have already purchased our website security product, we may exclude you from future advertising campaigns for that product as it would not be relevant to you. Another ad personalization could be activity-based. For example, use data about your page views on our website to determine if an advert would be of interest to you. The information we share with our advertising channel partners to serve you personalized advertising is done securely and cannot be used by them for any other purpose. We do not sell your data to third parties. In addition, the data we share is hashed and encrypted, which means it does not directly identify you. We do not sell your data in any way to our partners or other third parties.

Communication with you.

We may contact you directly or through a third party provider regarding products or services that you have subscribed to or purchased from us as necessary for the delivery of transactional or service-related communications. We may also contact you with offers for additional services that we think you will find valuable if you give us your consent or if we have legitimate interests to contact you. You do not have to give your consent as a condition of purchasing our goods or services. These contacts may include:

Compliance with legal, regulatory and criminal law requirements.

We work with government and law enforcement officials and private parties to enforce and comply with laws. We may disclose information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we determine, in our sole discretion, necessary or appropriate to respond to claims and legal process (e.g., subpoenas), protect our property and rights or the property and rights of third parties, to protect the safety of the public or any person, or to prevent or stop activities that we believe are illegal or unethical.

For reasons critical to maintaining the security, stability and resilience of the Internet, this includes the transmission of domain name registration information to the underlying domain registration operator and trustee provider and the publication of that information in the public WHOIS database, as required by ICANN or with other third parties demonstrating a legitimate legal interest in such information.

How we secure, store and retain your data.
